What to ask before booking a pet-friendly stay
Pet-friendly means very different things at different properties. Ask before you pay, not on arrival.
Ask what pet-friendly means at this property
It can mean the dog sleeps in the room, or it can mean the dog sleeps in a kennel outside. Get it in writing in the booking confirmation.
Ask about size, breed and number limits
Many properties cap the weight, the number of dogs, or exclude particular breeds. These limits often do not appear on the booking page.
Ask what the pet fee is and whether it is per night
A pet fee can be per stay or per night per animal, and some properties take a separate refundable bond. The difference over a week is significant.
Ask whether the dog can be left alone in the room
Most properties say no. If you are planning a day out without the dog, that single answer decides whether the booking works.
Check the grounds, not just the room
Ask whether dogs are allowed in the garden, the restaurant, and on the path to the beach. A pet-friendly room in a property where the dog cannot leave it is a long weekend.
